Workshops, seminars, demonstrations and acres of safety products and services are expected to draw around 10,000 visitors to Sydney Showground for The Safety Show and tje Sydney Materials Handling show next week.
Running from 27-29 October, the two occupational safety trade shows and The Safety Conference will dominate Safe Work Australia Week in NSW. Organiser Marie Kinsella of Australian Exhibitions & Conferences says the events will be keenly attended by employers facing new OHS laws.
“Of all the states, NSW employers will need to deal with the most radical changes to the law if the draft national model is adopted,” Kinsella says. “Bookings for seminars regarding the new laws presented at The Safety Show and Sydney Materials Handling have been so popular Safe Work Australia struggled to meet demand. Law firm Deacons will offer extra sessions for those who missed out in the rush.”
Many of the other big issues in OHS will also be addressed with safety workshops. The Safety Show's principal sponsor, WorkCover NSW, will keep visitors abreast of three key areas, with free daily seminars: Workers Compensation - What you need to know; Manual Handling and Smart Move Tool Kit; and Preventing and Dealing with Workplace Bullying.
Simplifying the complex field of safe work at heights will be the focus of a free workshop held by Workplace Access & Safety. The one-hour session explains how to make work sites safe and compliant with fall prevention regulations.
Products and services on offer at The Safety Show will extend from first aid supplies and training through to machine guarding and risk management.
Exhibitors at Sydney Materials Handling, with its dedication to ‘lift, shift and move’, will showcase logistics and warehouse management equipment, including radiofrequency identification (RFID) systems, forklifts, conveyors, storage systems, software and waste management.
Among the high-profile exhibitors at the two shows are WorkCover NSW, Blackwoods, Elliott Australia, Ingal EPS, Ingal Civil Products, NTP Forklifts, Rockwell Automation, Spill Station Australia and Webforge.
