  • Valve actuation for solar plant
The Andasol 1 plant in the Spanish province of Granada is a parabolic trough power plant and is claimed as the world’s largest solar power plant. Intelligent electric actuators with digital control have been specified for valve control in all areas of the generating process.
  • The hydraulics of wind power
Companies like AVN Energy, a Danish manufacturer of wind-power equipment, are creating the technology which now provides 20% of Denmark’s electricity production. AVN co-operated with The Trelleborg Group’s Sealing Solutions to develop seals for their wind power actuators.
  • Cylinder takes the stress out of bridge project
It looks like a menacing multi-barrel cannon of the type slung beneath fighter jets, but the purpose of this dark cylinder is constructive, not destructive. The Enerpac 900-tonne hydraulic stressing cylinder, supplied and customised by Jonel Hydraulics, will be used by Post Tensioning and Grouting to simultaneously tension dozens of high tensile stressing strands for bridge sections of the $NZ250 million-plus Tauranga Harbour Bridge crossing in New Zealand.
  • Actuator designed for opening emergency doors
Modern aircraft manufacture is fiercely competitive. There is immense pressure on to keep costs low. Requirements for efficiency and environmental considerations for wide-bodied aircraft demand research and innovation from every conceivable field. A Bavarian scientific and industrial consortium is breaking the mould in the construction of aircraft doors and emergency opening systems, aiming to develop a pyrotechnic rotary drive system for the task.
  • Tax concession for hydraulics R&D
A government concession has helped Parkes Hydraulics Services to grow from two to 10 staff members and contribute to its local economy
  • Motion control in motor sport
For over 20 years, Moog has been applying its motion control components and systems, to assist in the advance of motorsport technology

  • Electric actuator for quarter turn valves
The Biffi F02 is a compact, intelligent, electric actuator which incorporates all the advanced variables needed to provide effective control in large and complex plants.
  • Tiny pumps
The EMS and EMX ranges of pumps from Gotec Switzerland are very small reciprocating pumps which are suitable for OEM applications in medical and laboratory equipment. The pumps have a powerful driving mechanism integrated with the body of the pump. There is no need for a shaft seal and with only one moving part, they are virtually maintenance free with a long life expectancy.
  • Hollow piston cylinders
The Larzep range of hollow piston cylinders is suitable for many applications. The cylinders are extensively used in the construction industry and in a variety of maintenance applications.
  • Actuator for harsh conditions
The Linak LA36 actuator is designed to fit the demands of the industrial and agricultural industries. It is suitable for use in harsh conditions such as moisture, dust, oil or salt spray. The product requires limited maintenance even under the toughest conditions.
  • Cylinder safety locks
CLL locknut cylinders are designed for safety in heavy lifting. They are produced in stock capacities of 50-1000 tonnes and strokes 50-300 mm. Special 1500 and 2000 tonne models are also available on request.
  • Synchronised lifting system
The Larzep synchronised lifting system has been designed to operate up to 32 hydraulic actuators or cylinders from one pump.
  • Hydraulic cylinders
Romheld has released a range of hydraulic cylinders and slides for use in tool and diemould construction.
  • Rack and pinion actuator range
Obtaining rotary movement from rotary actuators is generally achieved by either rotary vane or rack and pinion drive. Both have their own advantages, however rotary vane units are generally more common in 90° (quarter turn). A range of rack and pinion actuators has been introduced recently by Norgren that cover 90, 180, 280 and 360° rotations.

  • Test kit eases verification of sensor functionality
A company has developed a portable test kit for the CAN protocol versions of its off-highway M-series linear position sensors to assist cylinder manufacturers and equipment OEMs in the off-highway market to verify functionality of the sensors after they are installed.
  • New facility opened
Custom Fluidpower has officially opened its new facility, based in Banyo on Brisbane’s north side. It has been designed as the building model for the company’s future facilities nationwide.
  • Billion dollar fuel package and hydraulic system
The fuel tank inerting system uses air separation modules with patented fibres. The air separation modules generate nitrogen-enriched air by removing the oxygen molecules from its air source and distributing the nitrogen to all the aircraft’s fuel tanks, thereby reducing the flammability of fuel vapours in the fuel tank and increasing the aircraft’s safety.
  • Hydraulic power generation system provided for jet
Eaton Corporation has been selected by Brazilian aircraft manufacturer Embraer to provide the hydraulic power generation system for its Phenom 300 light jet program.
