  • Inspecting electric motors

  • Efficiency conveyed to EB Mawson
Many quarries and mines are still relying on old technology to power their conveyors, using indirect V-pulley or belt-drive systems. These exposed belts and pulleys require continual adjustment to optimise their performance, and invariably require significant levels of safety guarding. Servicing of these systems often results in excessive conveyor downtime - both as a consequence of the constant attention required, and due to the time-consuming task of removing the guarding before work on the drive systems can begin.
  • Building a reliable VFD system
A variable frequency drive (VFD) regulates the speed of a three-phase AC electric motor by controlling the frequency and voltage of the power it delivers to the motor. Today, these devices (also known as variable speed drives) are becoming prevalent in a wide range of applications throughout industry, from motion control applications to ventilation systems, from wastewater processing facilities to machining areas, and many others.
  • Save energy and achieve greater control with variable speed drives
In today’s climate of rising energy costs and carbon trading schemes, any technology which helps plants use energy more efficiently should be adopted. Variable speed drives offer the ability to control the speed and torque of motors in many applications while providing significant energy savings - but only if implemented correctly in the right application.

  • Robotic application for DC micromotors
Today, mobile robots are often deployed in critical situations that are simply too dangerous for humans to handle — eg, to identify a suspicious object or disarm a bomb. These ‘manipulator vehicles’ have to meet particular requirements such as exact manoeuvring and precision handling of tools, and it must be kept as small as possible in order to allow access through narrow passageways. DC-micromotors have become an essential component in the design of these robots.
  • Electromechanics - an alternative for linear motion systems
In a growing number of instances, the basic question to be answered when designing a linear motion system is whether to use electromechanical actuators or hydraulics

  • Zero backlash couplings
When fitting stepper motors, servomotors, gearboxes and encoders to machines, care must be taken to ensure all devices are co-axial (no angular or parallel misalignment).
